Got me a pretty loaded Black Diamond yesterday. I came to an FJ kinda roundabout. Back in November my Excursion was getting a little long in the tooth (102k miles), sucking too much gas, needed new brakes, front 4wd needed fixing and needed new tires. About $3k+.
Went in looking for a 2008 FJ, came home with a new leftover loaded 2007 4Runner Sport. Really liked it, thought it would be good vehicle in Vermont with snow and everything plus good for my kids to get in and out of.
Wednesday dealer sends advertising saying they want recent 4Runners in for the used car market. Since getting the 4Runner 5 months ago I realized the kids are hardly in my car, so being the good consumer that I am I called the dealer and made an appointment. I went in really thinking I would not trade. Well I was wrong. A few (3) thousand dollars later I drove home in a new FJ. I really liked the 4Runner, but I REALLY LOVE the FJ. Reminds me of my full sized Ford Bronco but much more modern. It seems to handle ruts much better than the 4Runner. The 4Runner would get thrown around in the ruts but this thing just goes where I aim it.
FYI my progression of vehicles, at least ones that count, not talking about first car or college beaters etc is as follows.
1985 Ford Custom Ford Van and I mean custom. At a time when I had more money than sense. Chopped the roof and had an extended fiberglass roof installed, 4 captains chairs, 600 watt RMS stereo, bed in the back, air horns, dual batteries, built in Radar detector, built in CB, TV, mini 8 video, Yamaha top of the line head tape deck, 2 12" woofers etc..... Sold it young in '88 for the Bronco.
1989 Ford Bronco, fully loaded, Red, Eddie Bauer, 351 Windsor V8, limited slip front and rear, 3.5" Rancho Suspension Lift, air horns, 33" BF Goodrich AT. Kept it till it rusted away with 138k miles, still running like a top but would have been $4.5k to fix it and it only got 12mpg.
1999 Ford Expedition. Stock, nothing special. Sold it in 2003 for a used 2000 Ford Excursion.
2000 Ford Excursion Limited, stock nothing special. Traded it in 2007 for my first Toyota, the aforementioned 4Runner.
2007 Toyota 4Runner. Loaded Sport. Nice...
and finally.... yesterday, a loaded 2008 FJCruiser. It has the A-Trac package, sub woofer, locking rear, push bar and roof rack. The 265 tires look a little wimpy.
Now I just gotta figure out what to add to it.
