FJ Cruiser General FAQ
Thinking about buying an FJ Cruiser? Want to know it's specs or features? Check here first.

1. About how much would a front locker cost? What is good to get? and Do I need to upgrade the front axles? (I am assuming that with the differential locked, you could put up to 50% of your torque through one axle)

Written by Raj Patra
ARB has two front lockers (depends on what gearing you have and will have).

RD111 - Gears for lower than 4.10 (4.33/4.56/4.88/5.29)
RD121 - Gears for higher than 4.10 (3.9/3.727/3.5)

Price on those are around $750 I think. These are air lockers so you will need an air compressor (ARB has them on the market - a new smaller/slimmer version should be out soon).

Front axles do not need to be upgraded. One thing to remember when you lock the front, be easy on the skinny pedal and watch out how much you are turning your wheels.

Any way to kill the seatbelt and door open alarms?

Written by Raj Patra
One of the most successful ways doing the alarm off is by following the below mentioned steps:
Seat belt chime
1. Turn the ignition switch on (without starting car)
2. Press the ODO/TRIP switch until the odometer displays "ODO"
3. Turn the ignition switch off
4. Turn the ignition switch on
5. Press ODO/TRIP switch immediately (within 6 seconds after turning the power switch ON) and hold it down for 10 seconds or more.
6. Continue holding the ODO/TRIP switch and fasten the front passenger's seat belt.
7. Check that the odometer displays either "b-on" or "b-off" (it will be "b-on")
8. Press the ODO/TRIP button to change the display to "b-off".
9. Turn the ignition switch off.
10. Turn the ignition switch on while depressing the brake pedal.
11. Check that no buzzer sounds when setting on the front passenger seat.

Can I get a FREE FJ Cruiser T-Shirt?

Written by Administrator
In late 2007 we started a contest with www.fjcruiserpro.com to give away one t-shirt or similar item every week or so to a member who made a post in the forum, submitted a link, news article, or picture. If the contest is still running you will see a link on the front page.

Does anyone have any advise on replacing the factory radio? Are there any "issues" that i may have to address?

Written by Raj Patra
Very easy straight forward install. get the scosche dash kit and scosche harness. then all you will need is a 10mm socket with about a 4-6" extension and a medium sized phillips. pull the screws at the bottom of the silver trim pieces around the middle of the dash, those pull up from the bottom up, gently. then its straight forward from there. unplug the a/c controls. very straight forward.

I am about to buy an FJ with MT6 and no ATRAC switch. If I install an ATRAC switch, will ATRAC and the Rear Diff work together without further hacking??

Written by Raj Patra
If it is new, the ATRAC switch will allow the Locker to work with ATRAC, without any additional modification.

If it is used, it might work, it might not, depending on the date it was manufactured.

I have a 2x4 FJ and wanted to know if it could be used in off road courses ?

Written by Raj Patra
What do you mean by offroad courses?

If you are simply asking if you can take it offroad, yes you can. 2x4's are excellent in the desert and sand when properly driven and outfitted.

Definitely stay out of deep mud, and big rocks, as 4x4 is a must there.

I suggest going out with someone, possibly on one of the many trips planned here just in case you get stuck and you need a friendly pull!

Some downey offroad lift kit steps are???

Hey guys, thought you might like to know that this kit is now officially available. I believe the total cost is around 1280.00.

2007 FJ Cruiser Suspension

Downey's 2007 FJ Cruiser suspension system utilizes our 2003-06 4 Runner front struts, which feature custom manufactured Bilstein shocks and 30% heavier duty Tundra coils. This lift system is fully adjustable up to 3 1/2" of lift with no trauma to the front CV joints. Downey's 2003-06 4 Runner rear coils are a perfect fit and giver a 1 3/4" lift. When used with Downey's new polyurethane upper springs seats (FJ Cruiser specific), rear-end lift match front-end lift at 3 1/2". Your 33" - 34" tires will fit perfectly, 35" tires rub slightly. What are some specialities of the new 2007 FJ cruiser??

Written by Raj Patra
Speaker manufacturer NXT has announced that Toyota's new 2007 FJ Cruiser SUV will be the first commercial vehicle to incorporate its flat speaker technology, with the FJ to rock the enclosure-less speakers in its ceiling panel. The NXT tech differs from traditional conical speakers in that it uses a light, flat diaphragm to disburse sound frequencies over the entire panel surface as opposed to producing vibrations that ripple from the center outwards. The NXT-enabled FJ will be available in March 2006 for an as-yet-unspecified price.

what is a easy hack for Active Track??

Written by Raj Patra
What I understand about A-TRAC is that it simulates an LSD, and an LSD checks wether a wheel is slipping or not based on the torque it is getting( a lot more complicated but that's the bottom line) so if the rear is locked then the wheels get or atleast they're suposed to get 50-50 torque split (which in practice rarely happens but atleast the engine/computer thinks it does, there's a huge thread in the forums about this go check it out) . So if the computer/engine thinks it's getting 50/50 torque then A-TRAC should never even bother to apply brakes to the rear wheels?

Just putting this out there. obviously a lot more research is needed before attempting this but I definite see it working..

another crazy idea would be to sort of fool the rear A-TRAC sensors(which I believe are different from the ABS ones or at least more accurate) with some sort of electric signal.. but this is way out of my league, so I'll leave it up to you guys to take this idea further if you'd like to.

What is the grinding-clicking noise you hear when A-TRAC is active ?

Written by Raj Patra
Some of the noise comes from the brake servo motor, some comes from the brakes, like ABS.
I believe that the the rest of the noise comes from the tranny/t-case as it loads and unloads during the operation of the a-trac system.
I dont think it would hurt anything for the short time that it's used.
