I had my motorcycle trailer behind my FJ a couple times in the past week and I'm very disappointed in the performance.
These things are rated for 5000lbs and I pitty anyone that has to tow that much weight unless it is on flat ground.
I was towing about 1600lbs for 60 miles, point A to B, also had to cross the Blueridge Mountain on I-64 between Charlottesville, Va. and Waynesboro, Va., the FJ fell on its face and burnt a half a tank of fuel. This is only a hill compared to most. I hate to think what 5000lbs would have done to it.
I also just recieved the product quality survey in the mail so I will be spending some time on letting Toyota know how disappionted I am too.

I had no problems, I towed my 770lbs 2005 Harley Softail Delux using a dedicated Kenon trailer that is about 330lbs, so I was just a little over 1000lbs. We moved from DC to Arkansas, so we too went over mountains (Smokeys), they were really huge, and we had no issue. I stayed right at 70 to 75 the entire trip, uphill and downhill and my FJ ran like a champ.......sorry to hear yours didn't do so well.....

I also have towed a tent trailer that weighs just over 1000lbs. Yanked that thing a little over 400 km. I barely knew it was there. I have the manual. Is yours an auto? Maybe that might have something to do with it?
