Got AAA and called them abou tthis long ago since I have other cars then got their windshield cracked. AAA said it goes out on the comprehensive deductible. Mine is currently $500. If it happens, I just see myself paying $500 to get it fixed. It'll just be unfortunate to have a new windshielf get cracked in a couple months as this happened to me on one of my cars.

Since the windshield is more vertical than most, is it possible to put a protective covering on it like Nascar has for the race cars that would stay on while driving?
Just a thought, Douce

I had my FJ's windshield replaced at about 2500 miles. Took a rock dead center and made a spider-crack about the size of a silver dollar. I have AAA and full glass...so the $1400 repair wasn't an issue.
However, what was an issue was something discovered by the folks that replaced the glass. The white trim piece above the windshield has 7 (I think) clips that hold it on. I'm only guessing here, but Toyota must have had some of these rattle or cause wind noise so they put some urethane adhesive up there too. What this meant was that the glass replacement took on an additional $400 cost to replace the trim piece because the glass guy ended up bending it trying to get it off. Another glass company in town did the exact same thing.
So to top it off, the replacement trim piece does not sit as well as the original. The glass company actually pulled the windshield out again and tried resetting it. There is a 1/8" gap along the edge of the lower rubber seal and the glass. They are coming out again...
I'll let you know what happens...

I have been waiting for a replacement winshield for six weeks. Since insurance in Florida covers replacement of borken windshields, I went through a local "come to your office" repalcement company. When the glass didn't arrive, I called the dealer that I bought from and they supposedly checked and found none in the entire US.
It seems that Toyota would do a better job of keeping an inventory of parts - especially windshields.
