Does anyone have any suggestions on the brand of Synthetic Oil to go with > Castrol, Mobil 1, etc. and does anyone have a suggestion on the frequency of oil changes with a synthetic?

My first post. While I just picked up my FJ yesterday, I can answer this as I would with almost any vehicle: In my opinion (of course), the first is still by far the best.

Mobil 1.

Nothing else seems to touch it for its lubrication qualities, the detergents they use and overall viscosity.

I'm no expert, but I have several cars I work on and many bikes (old ones).

But in saying that, the absolute, most important thing in oil is regular changing of a quality, name brand oil.

I have my FJ now for 4 months and I love it but I do have one major problem with it and that is the front windshield. I know 5 people that own the FJ excluding me and all of them have a cracked windshield. I went to price the windshield being replaced and it will cost 1700 dollars this in crazy I mean I love the truck dont get me wrong but I ahve a 500 deductable on the policy and that meand 1200 to me seems to me that there is some kind of design flaw with the windshield does any one know please help

The synthetic Oil question is fairly simple. Specs say Amsoil is the top synthetic, but it's not readily available. Mobile 1 is #2 and you can get it everywhere. The only other point - they all make multiple grades of synthetics.....be sure you get the top of the line - price is the giveaway.

You are right on the money. When you review the specs it seems Amsoil is the way to go. I have joined the Amsoil preferred customers club and placed my first order for Amsoil ASL 5W-30 Synthetic Motor oil and Amsoil extended life oil filter (EAO57). According to the specs under normal driving conditions the interval change is 25K miles and under severe conditions 15K miles. I typically drive under normal driving conditions but plan on the interval change of 15K miles.
