Anyone customized their gear shfter yet? It sits a little too high for me. I figured out you can take off the knob and trim off the white plastic piece to lower it about an inch or so. I'm a little nervous to start trimming down the threaded rod. Anyone else customized the shifter yet?

Hmm,

Now I'm curious I'll have to take a look.

I'll ask around and see if anyone has shaved the gear shifter in the FJ.

does the knob unthread from the shaft? is it held by any set screws or retainers? If it is easily removable i wouldnt mind trying out some mods.

I have not looked but I would imagine it has at least one retainer screw to hold it in place. I could be wrong but it just makes sense to have something to lock it in instead of haveing a freely screwable shifter knob -this could get very dangerous on a trail if it came loose.

As far as the automatic goes the knob does unscrew from the shaft just like a standard (probably on purpose in order to accessorize). There are no screws that lock it in place.
