I just downloaded the trailer hitch wiring. I ordered this pkg and the parts are to be installed when delivered. I need to install an electric brake contoller which requires an input from the brake stop light switch. Do I have to beak into the wiring on the converter output or is there access from some other location? The other isssue is a fused out put for the main power to the controller. I see spare power output locations on the box where do I access them?

Any experience in this area??

By the way this the first time on the forum. I have a Black FJ with 1100 Km's on it. Other than rattling roof racks and a small gas tank every thing is ok.

Have you been able to resolve this? I am facing the same problem. I have ordered a Prodigy Brake Controller with a harness that allegedly plugs right into a factory connector on the FJ, but I still don't see how the blue wire on the 4 Flat Pin to 7 Position Adaptor gets hooked up to the controller!!!

The schematic of the wiring harness with the wiring kit doesn't show wire colors so I will tell you what I know as best I can. I also don't have the colors of the wires on your brake box in front of me so I will use general terms and you can read on the wires as to where they go. Again I don't have an FJ to look at either so here goes...

I don't know if there is a breakout for the brake light switch at the switch or at the converter so look and see. I doubt it but it may be, but you need to connect the wire from the brake box to a wire coming from the brake switch under the dash that gets power when you press the brake pedal. This will be the wire going "into" the converter on pin #8 (look at the schematic for location, there is a picture of the plug). Connect between the switch and the converter.
As far as main power, unless it says switched which I don't think it does, I would go straight to a 12 volt power point either on the battery or starter and put a circuit breaker in line to the brake box. One wire needs to go to ground and the last goes to the rear of the vehicle (usually it's blue) to the trailer plug. You will have to run this yourself.

I still don't see how the blue wire on the 4 Flat Pin to 7 Position Adaptor gets hooked up to the controller!!!
The blue wire has nothing to do with the 4 pin part of the plug. Trailers wired with 4 pin plugs aren't equipped with brakes. 4 pin is white = ground, Green = right turn, Yellow = left turn, Brown = marker lights.
The blue will come into play in the 7 pin side of the plug. There is usually a Red wire on these kits too, that is an accessory power 12 volt wire. If you use it, it goes to the battery and put a breaker in it too. You will have to run a wire from your controller where you mount it under the dash to the rear to connect it to the blue wire on the plug. The tow package wiring is only for the 4 pin hook-up, not for brakes so it is not a plug in part.

NOTE: I have gotten some of these 4 pin 7 pin combined plugs that were wired wrong from the factory. The RED and BLUE wires were internally put on the wrong pin. If you wire it by color and you use the red wire to 12V and the blue wire to the brake box and your trailer brakes stay applied, cut the red and blue wire loose and switch them. If you are not using the accessory wire and have no brakes after hooking up, hook the blue wire to the red wire on the plug. I have had 4 plugs with this problem so use this as a starting point to save yourself a lot of second guessing if there is a problem.
