I have a base model Cruiser. I was wanting to install a sub. I know the wiring is in the back for it, but I was wondering if the power supply wire is really up to the task of supplying enough power for an aftermarket amp. Any ideas? Or should I just run a new power wire?

The wiring in the harness looks to be about 12 gauge.

You could probably get away with a 100-150 watt RMS amplifier.

Your best best is to run a new power cable if your amp is bigger than that.

I'm installing a 200 watt MTX amp and I'm running an 8 or 10 gauge power cable.

If you are sticking with the stock head unit you could probably use the signal wires from the harness. Just test them to see if they are low voltage or speaker level outputs before you wire them into your amp.

Let us know what you decide to do, and post some pics too!

Well, I started playing with the stereo wiring. I found this handy pic. This is the plug that would go into the stock sub. The speaker wires are actually speaker level, and not RCA low level stuff. The power wire is definatly waay too small. It barely turned my amp on, let alone supplied power for subs.

I helped with an install of a 10" Amplified Bass Tube with a 100 watt RMS amp.

We used the factory harness and the bass tube sounds great. The tube has speaker level inputs so it worked well.

Would the tube be louder if we used a lower gauge of wiring? It's hard to say for sure. But overall he was happy with the added punch and he didn't have to run new wiring which can take a long time.

I have a 200 watt RMS dual 12" MTX sub box and there is no way the tiny harness wire would have been appropriate.
