Swaying into the turns

Hello everyone,

Since I drive the FJ on the road about 90% of the time, I got tired of swaying into the turns. I live in the country and we have lots of twisty roads. Fun in my convertible, no so much fun in the FJ!

I did a bit of measuring and found that my wife's 4runner sway bars would bolt right in! My wife was not impressed that she could not drive the 4Runner for a week. I ordered her a new set of 06 4Runner sport sway bars and bushing, and they are on.

The FJ handles the twisty roads almost as good as my convertible! AND the best part is that I can disconnect the links on one side with an 18mm wrench when I hit the good trails!

I hope this info may be helpful to some of y'all!

Why would you put 4Runner sway bars in? The FJC has sway bars front and rear. Are the 4Runner sway bars thicker? I'm actually taking mine out. It allows more articulation in the bush, and it's not that noticable on road.

Yes the 4Runner Sport has thicker sway bars, which makes the FJ handle better in the turns. Because I live on some very winding country roads, it would sway so much that I would loose traction on the road. The new bars have practically glued it to the ground. I have found that by just disconnecting the links on the drivers side and moving them out of the way that I can get the extra articulation easily with just 2 bolts taken out.

I think you might like the 4Runner bars, the original FJ bars are so weak that they might as well not be in there at all! I got a deal from Doug at Rusty Wallace Toyota in TN. He sold me both bars for the same price that my local dealers wanted for just one bar!

Have fun in the bush! Watch out for the possums!

Possum? What's a possum? We just have a bunch of deer, cougars, and bears.
