I am planning on getting an FJ, and I have some questions I was hopeing I could get some help with.

(I plan on using it on and off road; It will be a 4x4)

1. What wheel/tire size and type do you recommend?

2. What lift and how much of it?

3. What factory options would you recommend or say are a "must" for on/off road use?

4. What after-market modification(s) would you say make it "better"?

5. What tranny should I get? (Im undecided) the 5 speed auto, or the 6 speed manual?

6. What are your experiences with the FJ?

I beleive thats it, if I get some more questions Ill be sure to ask!

Thank you in advance!

Hey, just a couple of things, we have the auto trans its been great, better on gas mpg because its true 2wd, not so on the man tran. I drove truck and have had enuf gearjammin and clutchin. Also we installed a Skyjacker 3" lift part# FJ 730 and it is sweet, it comes with adjustable front coilover shocks , unlike some other kits we looked at where you had to use a strut compressor to do the install and re-use your front coils, the ride is still firm but it is noticebly better in the back country. We went with 285/70r/17" BFG All Terrains and we live in a rough terrain area (mountains) and its sometimes scary where it can go, usually I limit out before the FJ does. We stayed with this lift and tire combo because tho we enjoy offroading we sill make some long highway journeys. Just thinkin, maybe in a couple of years we'll buy a used FJ ,keep the one we have and go crazy on the used one. Hmmmm. Gotta go I hear my wife coming. TTFN

Hey there,I got the auto FJ (silver) and love it! The part time 4wd is plenty adequate as is, get the rear lockers for sure, the A-trac will help you in stopped and stuck situations. As for the accessories I got the rubber mats, they're so worth every penny, and the trailer hitch. I passed on the front skid plate and running boards, they seemed more for looks than anything else. Hope that helps with the basics. I haven't made any mods, it's awesome as is for now. I just did my first snow driving and it handled the road conditions perfectly. I tried getting really sideways in a snow field and the car beeped at me as a warning, the antilock brakes were fighting me! Tons of fun to drive!
