I have 20k on my blackcherry:

I have a about 100+ chips, I took mine to the dealer here in Utah, they will re-piant it, BUT the are sayign that doesn't solve the issue.

I found a matched paint rock guard on my 72 FJ-40, that 3M makes. I am going to have it placed on the window bars, and front panels, perhaps the rear tire panel as well, Cost: about 200.00 USD

I love it on my older FJ, I hope it solves my issues on my new one....

Now for some new Windshield Ideas.... Hmmmmmm, bug guards are crap, Any ideas?

Hey Guys!
Toyota knows they have a problem with the paint, it's defective. My cruiser has 3,000 miles on it and is all chipped up, hood, side posts, even the sides of the vehicle. The white undercoat over my burgundy makes it look awful. My windshield is full of pits and its only time til I need a new one. Take a good look at your windshield. Take a ball point pen and poke and every speck of dirt and you'll be surprised to find your windshield is all pitted too. BUT THERE IS SOMETHING WE CAN DO! When enough people complain, they will list the problem as a defect and it will be covered. YOU CAN CALL AND VOICE YOUR COMPLAINT AT 1-800-331-4331. Demand to speak to your regional representative the next time they visit the dealer. If we all complain, they will make it right. Also, the plastic compound is too soft inside. Most fjers own dogs...where the hell do you put them? Let them scratch the s**t out of the inside? Stupid! Call, each and every one of you, and stand up for yourself. You paid good money for this car, don't let them get away with it.

Windshield pit, not much I can say about that, every car I owened did that

Paint that I solved by working with my dealer...I also bought a 3rd party paint warrenty with mine. AND my dealer has paid me 250 for chipping patch. I took the money from both, and had a good body & paint shop touch-up, and put a Dupont rock guard on.. My out of pocket cost 50 bucks.

BUT Toyota has been dodging the bullet in this paint issue....

paint pens run about $12.00 cdn, maybe less US $?. I'd recomend toughing up the chips then taking your FJ to an 3m Trimline shop and get the clear 3m transparent tape applied on problimatic areas. I got it on the size pillars by the windshield, below the windshield on the wiper cowl and on the hood.

Well guys, I too have the voodo blue, and I think Toyota has a serious problem but won't admit it, yet! I started having a few paint chips almost immediately after I purchased last August. I have not yet taken it off road. I made a trip from Memphis to Breckenridge, CO when I returned the front windshield posts look as if some one had hit it with bird shot. Also I have chips in the sides and horozontal surfaces of the hood. There does not seem to be the same problem with the white, that is why I think it it a problem with the lower body paint. I spoke to Toyota and followed their recommendation talk first to local service mgr, then regional rep. I was not satisfied so I contacted toyota again was given another case number. When the rep called the next day, as they said he would give credit where it is due, he informed me he could do nothing as the regional rep had denied any Toyota responsibility.

Recommendation to any one with a paint problem call the toyota 800 number, refuse to deal with the local rep or the regional rep for a solution you will, I believe get better response from the factory.

Meanwhile anyone looking for a Voodo Blue with about 110 paint chips??

Hey guys. i do think there is a BIG problum with the paint. ive just got 600 miles on my Voodoo blue FJ,and i have more paint chips allready, than i had on the 4 year old truck i traded in for the FJ.

i tried to fix a Big chip.I put some touch up on the chip, and used some rubbing compound.very light 3m clear coat stuff, too level it out.well i can see the white base coat under the blue now...

took it to my friends body shop to see if he could rub it out or fix it.he thinks that the FJs are all white to start with.mostly for the white top.than they paint them whatever color they are goin to be.but when they do paint them, its very light, not heavy paint like normal.or they just dont put much on,so its not too thick. the clear coat is very light too

that seems to explain the white under the paint.could be primmer too.really dont know.but my friend is goin to fix it for me.

I would like to hear what you guys think about the rock guard that you have put on.most of my driving is highway.and some dirt driving on weekends,so far anyway

I work on cars and trucks for a living, and have not seen something chip as easy as the FJ..
