I am planning on getting an FJ, and I have some questions I was hopeing I could get some help with.
(I plan on using it on and off road; It will be a 4x4)
1. What wheel/tire size and type do you recommend?
2. What lift and how much of it?
3. What factory options would you recommend or say are a "must" for on/off road use?
4. What after-market modification(s) would you say make it "better"?
5. What tranny should I get? (Im undecided) the 5 speed auto, or the 6 speed manual?
6. What are your experiences with the FJ?
I beleive thats it, if I get some more questions Ill be sure to ask!
Thank you in advance!

I hope my suggestions help you. Please keep in mind that many of your questions are soley dependent on your needs and desires and when it is all said and done, you are the one that needs to be happy with the end result.
1. Depends, but from a factory option, I would go with the 17" tires.
2. If you are lifting, ProComp makes nice and affordable lifts. 3" should get it done unless you are rock crawling every weekend.
3. Active Traction and being able to lock in the back wheels is a nice option. (Locking Diff)
4. ARB fog lights, front bumper with winch, etc...
5. Really depends on you. Both have pro's/cons. Do you drive with a cell phone attached to your ear? In traffic alot? Manual vs. Auto is up to the drivers. Are you the only driver?
6. I have had my FJ for only a couple of months, but have had it off raod several times. I have forded the Meramec river twice and have had it in the river bottoms on two occasions in the mud. It performed flawlessly.
Best of luck,
Steve

Thanks, its always nice to hear feedback;
Im looking to build a very reliable rig.
1- yah I agree with the 17" tires, But what about after-market?
5- no, i prefer not to talk on the phone and drive. it is possible someone else would drive, but only because i was being nice
I am leaing towards auto with the AIS, but i still dont know.
What is your experiance with the AIS?
thanks again,
PS. any and all suggestions are welcome!

I'd go with at least a 32-33" BF Goodrich MT, a 3-6" lift from a quality lift company, I think ARB and Warn have the best winch bumpers, the Auto Tranny is my choice..it gets better mpg and you can spend more time driving than shifting. Get the all-weather floor mats, the rear diff lock, get all the traction control systems.
