I've changed my oil myself too. Very easy. Used Castrol Syntech and Fram oil filter. Nice set up.

But I have a question, whats up with the oil filter? Is an oil filter with a back flow or check valve needed?

Hi~you said you purchased the Platinum warranty and it covers EVERY oil change to 45? I too, purchased the Platinum, but no one said anything about that? Is it in your warranty manual or just through your dealership? I am going dig that out after work......

Oil changing is a breeze. I use Castrol Syntec Blend 5W30 with Fram 3614, your choice. I called Fram and the technician said that the filter will handle any mounting position (like my younger days) I grease with that Green Grease. My first oil change was at 4k, todays was at 9K. Every 5K from now on through the life of the vehicle. My next mod is Royal Purple in the transfer and front and rear differentials. Recent MPG = 20.5 before the synthetic lube change. The FJ was loaded with people and two dogs. The forth gear in the automatic tranny was very "road user" nice.

Traversed the Hayden Creek Trail in Colorado near Salida, excellent view. And I must say that the view from the cockpit of the FJ was excellent. Like 3 panoramic photos. Really Cool.
