I have an 08 FJ and I did not get the factory racks because I already had Yakima racks for previous vehicles I've owned. I figured there would be aftermarket racks from yakima that did not require the factory roof rack. It has been three years and they finally have something called "Railgrab" for the FJ (8000138 item number). Has anyone used these? Alternatively, are there suggestions for aftermarket racks? I want to use for camping gear and also sometimes for my outrigger canoe. I am going on a road trip to Zion, Bryce, Capitol Reef, and Grand Canyon in May/June... I have friends visiting from overseas who I want to show the beauty of the southwest! I NEED more storage for traveling with my friends. Suggestions? I was also thinking of getting a hitch (suggestions?) and a box attachment for the back... what have people found useful?

Thank you all for your help in advance!

Never used the new racks, but the word is that they are lower profile and people have had great experience with aftermarket racks versus oem.

Let us know what you decide to go with.

Gobi Ranger rack has higher profile but also twice the storage capacity plus mesh bottom. Just installed mine.
