The FJ's styling echoes the rugged early FJ40 Land Cruisers.
While its off-road prowess is superb, the FJ is full of compromises. Visibility is horrendous, and the rear-hinged rear doors provide poor cabin access and are difficult to close.
The FJ has clumsy handling and can be disconcerting at its limits, although the standard stability control keeps it secure enough. The ride is compliant but jiggly.
The V6 powertrain is smooth and punchy, but returned just 17 mpg overall with premium fuel required.
While crash-test results and reliability are impressive, the FJ scores too low in our testing to be recommended.
Overall a 36 out of 100
I was really surprised it was this low.

You know, that really sucks, because I just LOVE my FJ and I've got over 17,000 miles on it now. I've taken it through California, Nevada, Idaho, Montana, Wyoming, and Utah for fishing and hunting with absolutely no worries about terrain, comfort is incredible and people who complain about blind spots don't know how to drive with mirrors...

I consistently get 20mpg in mixed driving and as high as 25 highway. The 17 is what I got with regular unleaded or when I have 4 wheel drive engaged.

I use my mirrors so I dont notice the blind spots.I also get between 19 to 21.5 mph using 91 octane. I also feel that it is one of the most comfortable vehicles out there.

I think it is all a load of crap. I use the 89 octane all the time and average between 19 and 20 mpg mixed driving and 17 when offroading. I have no problem seeing out of my FJC and have been driving it just over two years and have close to 36000 miles on it. Mirrors are what you should be using to drive anyway so I don't know what the complaint is. Plus the backup sensor works great, it even picks up weeds and tall grass, so if you use it, like I do, you should have no problem. Everyone always ask about visibility, even when I parallel park on a street. I plan onkeeping my FJC until it falls apart and can't be fixed! 2007 FJ Cruiser Voodoo Blue Roof Rack Towing PKG Black Steelies AT with Rear Diff and A-Trac 265/70/17 Goodyear Wrangler Dura Tracs Rock Sliders Indianapolis Area
