Just wondering what the first oil change was recommended to be. The only info I can find is 8000km. Seems a little high for the first oil change to me. I've also read that some people are getting the first oil change for free. Is this true?

Toyota USA recommends changing the oil at 5,000 mi. intervals. 8,000 km divided by 1.6 (how many km's in one mile) is 5,000... So, 8,000 km is correct as far as I can tell.
As far as the free oil change, I purchased my car with the Platinum warranty that covers every oil change interval until 45,000 miles. I have not heard of any program here in the states regarding a free first oil change.

The only free oil change I've heard of is the "first one is free" with the $699 Toyoguard package.
If your FJ had that package you should get a free oil change.

i think the free oil change varies by dealer. the last 3 toyotas ive bought came with a coupon for a free first oil change. So i think it is just something that dealer likes to offer.
