How many of you run the high octane fuel? Is this something you have to do with the FJ? Can you get by running 89 octane?

Thanks!

You can run 89 with no problems. I have run 87 and it'll do it, but you feel the difference. You loose a little power and mileage. You won't hurt the engine running mid or low grade.

I've been running the low grade for the last three tanks and have noticed a huge drop in MPG. Running 93 octane I was getting right at 300 mile per tank, with the 87-89 octane, I am lucky to get 250 miles per tank. I will be going back to 93 in the next tank.

It WILL work with the cheap gas, but as noted, your MPG drops dramatically. You end up paying more to use the cheaper gas.
The engine is designed to work with the higher octane gas. When you use the cheap grade, the engine backs off the timing to compensate. Your performance and MPG suffer...a LOT!
