I have just experienced the exact same thing on my 2007 FJ with just over 15K on the dial. Please let me know where you get with yours, I'm very concerned and will be visiting my local Toyota dealer promply seeking a valid explanation.
I recently returned from an offroad excurison on the beaches and very wet offroads of Cape Hatteras, NC. The vehicle returned intact and operating normally. I checked all vitals upon returning including above and undercarriage fluids while doing the usual visual. The only thing I can concluded is that some salt water may have made it's way past the ABS box located under the rear tail. It's a onerous looking thing and is exposed to all elements with only a plastic casing. HMMM?
BTW I am operating a 6speed tranny and yes it is in normal highway operating mode. At least I know how to do that. The owners' manual is about as confusing as you can get.
Let me know how it works out.
