I have a Sony video camera. I am able to get vid clips onto my computer, but with limited quality. I currently use the supplied USB cable to upload to my computer. It has another port on the camera that I don't have a cable for. It is labeled "DV". Wondering if I get a cable that fits into this port, could it have a better quality transfer? Or is there a way to connect RCA's to the computer for a better quality?
So, basically I'm asking - what is the best way to transfer my vids to my computer?

If the connection via the USB is digital to your PC it should be an exact replica digitally of the video on the camcorder.
Thus if the quality of the video on the camcorder is great, the captured video with the USB should be great too.
The term used to be "GIGO" garbage in, garbage out.
RCA's are analog and you will lose quality in the transfer.
The DV port is digital and it requires a firewire or IEEE 1394 cable. It's faster than USB 1.0 and usually USB 2.0. So if time is a concern you might want to upgrade to firewire. You can add a firewire card to most modern computers for $20-$50.
Double check the import settings on the import software to make sure you're importing at maximum quality.

Well, the only way I can get the vid onto the computer, is to use the software that came with the camera. After uploading the clip, it converts it to MPEG. Also, when I try to make a DVD copy of the vids, it turns out like crap. Stupid computers...
