I just bought a new SE with the factory Garmin Nav system and I am really disappointed. Yeah, the salesman touted the ability to pull the Garmin from the dash and carry it in your backpack while hiking. Here's the problem. First, I happen to have a Garmin Etrex, and I already have the topo mapping software from Garmin, but guess what? The program MapSource won't let me send the topo maps to the Quest2 for the vehicle. What good are street maps while you are hiking? Very dumb. Even if it worked, the biggest problem with Garmin topos is that the resolutions sucks. The best elevation resolution they give you is 50m, or 160ft. Heck, you could drop your vehicle into a 50ft ravine and it would never show up on this topo map. Very stupid design.

OK, I found out a little more on this. Turns out you have to repurchase each mapping product for every Garmin GPS unit you own. Yes, that's right. You cannot reuse that software you already paid for. So if I wanted to buy this crappy Topo software again, I could download it to the Quest2. Mmm. Not very appetizing.

I did not get the factory Nav system. I am thinking about buying one, just not sure what kind would be the best.

You're really comparing apples and oranges. I've got the Garmin Street Pilot for road trips, I use the portable one with the bean bag that sits on the dash, since I don't use it for everyday driving, just long road trips, or trips to new locations. I have the Garmin eTrex for riding my rhino in the woods here in WV, it's great for offroad trail plotting and waypoints, etc, but I wouldn't use it on-road. Maybe you should be able to use one system for both activities, but two systems seem to work great for me.
