I'd say yes. It does warm up quickly. I can feel heat by the time I get to the end of my street. Mind you, thats with an outside temp. of about 5C.
It's very quick and manouverable, but it's a lot wider than a Cherokee. Lots of room inside, but can be a bit difficult to get into the back seat, especially if the front seats are slid all the way back. I think that could be your only issue. Although, the Cherokee back doors are very small, and also fairly difficult to get in and out. One plus is the back doors cannot be opened unless the front door is opened first.
Oh, and I highly doubt it will be available with a V-8 anytime soon. The V-6 has plenty of power and torque. I can tell you, it's faster than a 4.0 HO Jeep Cherokee. Hmmm...maybe I should keep my mouth shut, or I'll be riding in the back of a police "Cruiser".

I'm a fat burly guy and I fit in the back fine. It heat up for us at -20 and colder. Most of our driving is on the highway at 90mph in snow and rain and it handles well.
