I'm sure a few minutes googling will get you the right answer, but I remember reading it somewhere that FJ was the internal code name for what became the first marketed Land Cruisers, or something along those lines.

my understanding is that when seen by servicemen in the many wars in which it has participated, it was nicknamed the "Foreign Jeep".
