To see if they are working you could disconnect the rear pillar speakers and move your fader to "rear" 100%. Then listen for them, they seem to play from between the front seats and the back seats.

They sit just behind the headrest of each of the front seats, just about centered over them. You can sort of "feel" the sound if you lightly touch the headliner in this area with the unit on.

The headliner speakers are to the left and right of your interior light, and they are COMPLETE CRAP!
I have the 6-speaker. When you turn on the "Rears", you hear the headliner speakers. I get more volume out of my laptop speakers.
You'd get more boom by turning a set of $20 sony headphones up full volume.
I have a new head unit being installed by pro's, cuz my dealer promised Sirius Sat Radio, then after tearing the truck apart, realized the head unit wasn't compatible. When these guys put in a better head unit, i'm having them cut the headliner wires.
Not worth the minute power they suck out of the radio.
I'm planning on putting Kappa's in the rear pillars, and replacing the door and dash speakers. The sound system really is sub-par.
But if that is all they went cheap on, I'm happy to replace it.
