Has anyone insatlled a DVD player in their FJ? When speaking with my Toyota rep, he stated because of the speaker in the roof lining an over head was a No-No. But since I have a few trips planned with the kids I'd like to get something installed to keep them occupied without having to always remember to take it with me?

I was thinking of the Eclipse 6600 GP w/ DVD unit and getting monitors in the head rest, but I'd like to see if anyone has done something with a bigger non-dash option strictly for the back seat occupants.

Thanks.

the speaker on the roof are transducers meaning the whole roof become a speaker, I don't know what the dealer tell you but
I think that will be a more exciting experience to watch a dvd in the car with transducers since the job of a transducer is to make sound more realistic around you.
I use a portable dvd player when I go on long trips with the kids conected to the aux and it works very well with the factory amp at least for me. I am also installing a computer in the car
2.8mhz pentium4 with a 7 inches xenarc touch screen and using road runner as a frontend I am almost ready with the software

Sounds like a VERY nice set up; I'd love to see pics when you get a chance to post them.

The roof speakers/transducers could be disabled and if you have the rear pillar speakers the sound should still be great. If you feel like you are missing something you can always add an extra set of tweeters for under $50.00.

The headrest monitors are a good idea if you want a simpler install.

I have two I have been waiting to install. It's been so hot I don't want to sit in the truck for more than 10 minutes.

If price is no object check this out.

Head rest monitors with build in DVD players.

You could also just add a dvd player under a seat to supply video to the headrests.
