Hello all, I've had my FJ Cruiser since March and have a question or two about the roof rack. I see that a lot of people recommend replacing it with the aftermarket version. Since I mostly just want to cart around snowboards on the thing, I'm hoping the OEM one I have will do fine. I've looked through the forums and FAQ for the answer to my question, my apologies if it has already been addressed.
I see that the OEM Snowboard Rack should hold 2 snowboards. Can I just purchase the rack itself or are there other accessories that need to be purchased? When I went to the dealer and opened a box the manual seemed to suggest that there were some special order parts needed for the rack to attach.
Also, instead of the OEM version, is there an aftermarket snowboard rack that will fit on the OEM roof rack and carry 4 boards? Thanks for your help, I'm looking to go boarding very soon.

I just picked a rack up this weekend to go on my factory rack -- the Yakima Fat Cat 6. Go to yakima.com for details, but here's the skinny:
- Handles 6 pairs of fat skis or 4 snowboards - A unique hinge system keeps it compact and low - Universal mounting hardware fits round, square and most factory crossbars right out of the box - Aerodynamic nesting arms, for a slim, sleek look - Integrated SkiLift clears tall bindings in a single bound - SKS compatible
Retails for $199 at REI.
Cheers, Barry

I use the THULE roof rack. I its the larger size. you can also cheat by placing two boards upside down ( bindings facing the roof) then place the other two on top of the first two (bindings facing up) so the two waxed areas are in contact with each other. be sure to get locks with the racks to hold the board in place if you go fast or I mean if it happens to be windy in your travels. Yakama also makes some nice carriers too. enjoy your trips and don't forget to have fun with the FJ in the snow too. you can check out there web pages Thule I believe makes feet that mount to the factory cross bars and will be the cheaper way to go. or you can spend more and mount then to the side pipes and use new cross bars to load a bike or other type of rack on too.
