I too would recommend the distribution hitch, the added weight is negated by the hitch, and it's the right way to tow a trailer. You could also reduce the tongue weight by moving some weight to the rear of the trailer, maybe add a storage box to the rear bumper of the trailer, this will take some weight off the FJ but I would rather have a weight distributing hitch myself.
