OK, I'll defer further reports until I have at least 5K miles. I also realized today that I had taken the front skid plate off (see related post - how to install a front receiver) so this could also have an effect. Frankly, there are just too many variables. You have to change one at a time and then operate long enough with consistent usage before you can have any confidence in these numbers.

I have a question to ask. I was talking to a neighbor that also has a FJ and we were talking about the engine and the fact that they have been around for a bit and are used in other Toyota vehicles, but why does the FJ need 93 octane while all the others run on 89 octane?

Also, just got back from Gatlinburg (week vacation) my neighbor was there also (did not know until today) but we were comparing our gas mileage and he got better than me and he runs only 89 octane, I run 93...what is up with that. I got 320ish out of each tank, less in Gatlinburg (traffic and mountains) but not bad.

The FJ has a sticker saying 'premium recommended' or somthing along those lines. There was a notice sent out, that 89 was fine to use, but premium would provide better economy and performance.
The other vehicles that use the same engine (Tacoma, 4Runner) probably get better milage because of better aerodynamics, and 2wd capability.(The 6 speed FJ does not) Also, the Tacoma, etc, I think, comes with smaller tires, and most likely different axle gears, which will make a difference as well.
