When I took my FJ in all they did was look at the vin number to see if it fell into the vin number range that they were given from Toyota, they never even looked at the tires.

Hmmmm...you would think they could do that over the phone. Or they should have that info on hand, anyway...

I phoned mine in. My vin# wasn't in the range so they said my Dunlops were OK. Just another related question, the dealer said the OEM Dunlop tires were better than the Bridgestones. Anyone have comments on that?

I wonder why he said that? I own two FJ's, one with Bridgstones, other with Dunlops. The "B" rides better than the "D".

I actually was having the dealership swap the Dunlops for the Bridgestone, before I'd take the FJ, when the service manager came over and asked if I really wanted to do that. He said that the B's are a softer tire, and while the ride might be a bit better, the life is not. Given the weight of the FJ, I decided to take his advice and keep the D's. I've had Bridgestone on a light weight Honda CR-V which lasted 40,000 miles - while the same brand on my wife's Sienna minivan lasted only 20k. So I did base my decision also on some past experience.
