An interesting thing about the roof mounted speakers- They are super thin and attached to the headliner in such a way that the headliner is actually the speaker cone for the the pair turning the whole headliner into a huge speaker! Something to think about when modifying the headliner for any reason like sunroof install, etc...

Are the headliner speakers standard or do you have to buy the upgrade package?

I didn't get the upgrade package and I plan to replace the stock head unit and was wondering how they are wired in?

Will I need a four channel amp or a six channel amp?

My FJ will be here on Friday so I have a long weekend of mods ahead of me including the removal of the current sound system and installation of a PC based touchscreen system. Looks like I have some answers to find before I start cutting...

Ok, from what I can tell the headliner speakers are standard. If you did not buy the upgrade, you should have six speakers. Two in the headliner, two on the top corners of the dash, and one in each of the front doors.

I remember a Consumer Electronics Show in Vegas a few years ago and a company called NXT who was introducing the flat panel technology. I wondered if it would ever get popular or just fade away.

I wonder if the FJ is the first vehicle to have this technology?

OK, I read on here about the headliner speakers, and after I picked up my FJ, I noticed there are only 7 speakers (not counting the invisible headliner speakers) when I upgraded to the 9 speaker system. My question is this, where are the headliner speakers and how can I figure if they are working or not (other than sticking my ear to the headliner, but have to know where, that thing's huge!)?
