Because existing sources of auto reliability information left much to be desired, in late 2005 I started conducting my own reliability research at TrueDelta.com. TrueDelta reports absolute stats like "trips to the shop" that make the differences between cars much clearer. Results are updated four times a year, so any significant changes in a model's reliability become apparent quickly.

I've had strong participation from FJ Cruiser owners, with over 100 signed up to participate. So far these owners have reported very few repairs. I've read of a few common problems on various forums, though, so this could change.

Participants simply report repairs the month after they occur on a one-page survey. When there are no repairs, they simply report an approximate odometer reading four times a year, at the end of each quarter.

To encourage participation, panel members will receive full access to the results for free.

Updated results in a few weeks. We'll see then if the problems talked about on the forums are common or not.

Still especially need more 2008s.

Still quite short on the 2008s. Do sales remain strong?

If you have a 2008, your participation would help us provide results for the second year of the FJ.

The latest results have been posted. The repair rate for the FJ has crept up a bit, but remains better than the average.

I should note, though, that only successfully completed repairs are included in the analysis. A few owners have reported inner fender cracks that have not been repaired.

So far I only have a result for the 2007. I'd like to provide one for the 2008 as well, but not enough owners have signed up to participate. (For the 2007, over 100 are signed up.)

No complaints, I knew what I was buying and what to expect. I have driven trucks for years and this is my first SUV type, not calling the FJ an SUV, just where does it fit? But anyway, first one and I have no problems, little quirks but nothing that is going to make me ever give it up.
