Thanks to all for your input. I just purchased a used 2007 with 17,000 miles over Labor Day. I love it. My wife drives a 2007 Jeep Wrangler which we love as well but the FJ is so smooth and quiet. I wish we had the FJ back in July when we went trail riding in SOuthwest Colorado.

Heres my opinion....

I have the Automatic transmission, and when I took it from the dealer, It had regular grade in it! My MPG sucked bad!

When I heard it was recommended Premium, I burned the tank out and filled it fully with Premium, since I did that I get a lot better MPG, and it seems like the pickup is better! Sure it costs a little more to fill up with Premium, but with saving MPG and better performance, I would have to say.....

ITS WELL WORTH IT!

Hope I Helped!

Personally, I use regular. I ran premium for three months to see if there was a difference. I got absolutly no difference. No pinging, no less throttle response, no better mpg or worse mpg. I am pretty sure the ECU adjusts for the differences.

I have had this same engine in three trucks now and have never had a problem in any. I do use synthetic oil though, although I change it at 9000 miles.

There is a lot of post on this topic. With that said, I have used everything from 87-93 and while it does seem to run a bit smoother with 93, for everyday driving I use 87. However, when offroading I use 93 just for the performance. I also stuck with the 93 but when gas reached near $4 I started using 87 and had no noticeable difference. I drive 50+ miles per day just commuting to and from work 5 days a week and then tooling around on the weekend and average 340 miles on a tank and filling up with 15-16 gallons when the low fuel light comes on. Which equals about 21+ miles per gallon. Not bad, I have the Automatic with 4 wheel drive and roof rack. Noticed no difference when I added the rock sliders as far as mpg.

MHO,

Hope you have fun

340 miles to a tank? my god!! i have the manual 6 speed with a aftermarket intake before the intake i would get about 230miles for 60 liters ( im in canada with a us model so sorry about the metric imperial thing)Anyway i use premium because i do notice a small difference of 20 or so miles per tank. when i added the intake i got another 25miles out of a tank. I fill up as soon as my light come on tho so you think its possible to get another 50m out of the bottom?>
Maybe im just driving it too hard lol
I love it tho
