Roof Rack Challenge Written by Henry R Tuesday, 06 June 2006
Not sure what to do about this and thought I would throw it out to fellow FJ Cruiser owners.
My new FJ Cruiser is two inches two tall to fit into my garage.
I have adjusted the door as much as I can to allow further clearance.
According to the dealership, I do not have the option to remove it since it is bolted on. Are any of you aware of modifed racks being sold over the internet that I could use to replace my current rack?
Feeling pretty dumb here but the sales person assured me it would clear a 77" opening. Not the case.
Thanks.

First question to ask yourself is do you really need the rack? If not you could sell it to someone who is looking for one. True, it just bolts on and if you sell it be sure to get the plastic filler pieces that cover the holes. Only other quality rack I am aware of that might solve your problem is the Gobi Stealth. They make two and the Stealth is the shorter of the two. Otherwise, you could wait until Thule or Yakima ofer something. Hope this helps.

It might help to review the "roof rack installation" instructions in our download section. It may help you reverse engineer when you deconstruct the roof rack.
Hope that help a little
