I am about to finalize the deal on my new FJ Crusher and I am beyond ready. I want to lift the truck and put 285s on it but wanted to see if anybody had info on how the tire size affected the gas mileage. I intend to add a clod air intake and an exhaust to hopefully offset the tire size. Any info is greatly appreciated.
Thanks.
Matt

That's only a tire that is 1" taller. You won't even notice a difference. You might notice if you go with a tire a few inches, but even then, it's not that big. I had 37" tires on my 4Runner at one time, and it changed only by a few MPG. I'm going with 42" tires on it, but much lower axle gears. It will only be the extra weigh and rolling mass that will change it then.

I have a '74 blazer that has 35s on it with a 4" lift and it is a pig on gas. The speedo is off by quite a bit as well. I do know that when I upsized from a 245 to a 285 on my 3/4 suburban it affected it a bit.
Does anybody that has 285s on thier FJ have actual MPG info?

I have 285's on mine. It's about 17-19 MPG depending on where I'm driving, and how much crap I've stored in the back.
Oh, and ANY '74 Blazer is gonna be a pig on gas.
