Even though I think we agree that an aftermarket inverter would be the best idea, I would still like to know the answer to this one. Like Sketchy, I am interested in doing the same thing and 400W is more than enough for my needs.

I use a computer in the car all day and need it to be "lit up" all day as the battery on the computer doesn't last as it is a very old lap top.
My computer has a DC cable, but it blows the 15A fuse on the normal port, so I will add a 20A circuit.
I am thinking about making the new DC port always live rather than one that requires that the key be on to work. We are good about turning things off at night so that the FJ battery doesn't get too taxed.
Has any one else done something like this?
Jeff

I installed a second Optima battery. My amplifiers run off it, and I have a power source that is always on as well. I run my small 12 v fridge when I go camping, or I can plug in my inverter to it. Because it's coming off the second battery, and the 2 batteries are seperate from each other, I will always be able to start the truck, even when I kill the optima with the fridge. When I fire up the truck, I flip the switch, and both batteries get charged.
