I have a Black Diamond FJ and have had it less than a month. I was washing it at the car wash and right above the "TOYOTA" grille, I had a 1/4" X 3-4" strip of paint peel off near the hood!!!!! I almost flipped out. I called my sales rep at the Toyota dealer and he told me to bring it in next week to have it looked at. He said that he hoped for my sake that it was not a rock chip that started it and then when I hit it with the pressure washer, it got underneath it and peeled up the paint.
I have read where others mentioned how thin of a paint layer Toyota uses on the frames, but has anyone experienced this yet? If so, what was the outcome?
Thanks and I will let you know what transpires.

Has anyone had any experience with that invisible paint protection bra? There are a couple of companies that make it and it appears to work:
I did see it on a TRD SE the other day and you can tell that the clear overlay is there.

Yes, I have the TRJ FJ and I find the paint job , very thin, I bought it in March and not even driven it off road, but there are chips from pebbles in the road.
Certainly not Toyota quality.

I just returned from the dealer and after inspecting my problem, they determined that the plastic portion, which bolts up to the hood was not prepped correctly before being painted. There were a couple of "bubbles" in the paint. The dealership arranged for me to bring it back in next week and have the piece removed and re-painted. They had to order some clips that are also used to hold it together (in addition to the eight bolts) in case on of them breaks during the process.
I am thinking that a bug deflector might still be a good option to help prevent chips on the front of the hood and possible the windshield in the future.
I was glad that Toyota stepped up and took responsibility of this problem. It made me feel good about them as this is my first experience with a non US manufacturer. (so far, so good)

This product works well, and there are several other similar products. You just have to make sure the person who installs it does a good job or you will have unclear spots and bubbles. It is a good product however.
