Honestly I drove mine over 7K before I ever saw the premimum fule only sticker! Always thought it was just doggie on the highway. the last few tank fulls I have used an aditive octain booster. .20 per gal. Much better performance but I don't know if this is the way to go or not.

Please relate your story. I am experiencing similar problems on my FJ now with just 17k on the OD. Toyota wants to drop and replace the tank and said they found a white substance clogging the fuel filter and gas tank breather screens???

I think I'm being fed a line of crap from Toyota and think the problem goes beyond my responsiblity. They claim I used bad gas and it's my responsiblity and that this will not be covered under warranty even though the vehicle is still covered?

Please e-mail me directly at stewmacpro@earthlink.net

Update...

I just got back from Utah and returned to Daytona Toyota for an update as to the problems with my FJ.

In another post on this site I recommended CA-40 fuel additive to get more MPG out of your FJ. This apparently worked to the point where the additive and its cumulative effects wiped out any advantages of using this stuff.

CA-40 is based on calcium used as a catalyst (like sulfur in diesel) to burn fuel more efficiently and get you better MPG. Their claims were right, unfortunately this does not work well for gasoline engines and it broke down in the fuel tank and clogged both the fuel screen and fuel pump in my FJ with a fine coating of calcium that apparently separated itself from the fuel in my tank impeding the flow of fuel to the injectors and thus making the engine lights come on as a result of too lean a mixture.

I am contemplating a class action lawsuit against the makers of CA-40 claiming false advertising as this additive is not compatible with gasoline-burning internal combustion engines. Toyota also claims I may have gotten a bad tank of gas from BP. I will not be returning to BP ever again.

As a result, I have consulted my insurance company and have a $100 deductible on my policy which will cover this incident which is not covered by Toyota's warranty.

I will be receiving a new gas tank, new lines, new injectors and fuel filters/pump from Toyota pending a review by my insurance adjuster. More to come. Be very very careful where you purchase your fuel. I'm going with Sunoco premium as it's not imported from the Saudis.

More to come...
