Hi all,

My name is Jim. I just signed the deal for my FJ yesterday (Sat 5/6) while waiting for an oil change on my Solara at the local dealer. Car should arrive week of 5/15. Actually, I stopped by the dealer this last Monday afternoon after getting my Vette smogged and took two test drives. 1st was in a blue manual and the second in a silver auto – both 4x4s. The manual was a real hoot to drive but considering the traffic I sometime have to drive in and my daughter’s lack of an affinity for clutches, I settled on the auto. While I was out driving the silver auto, another salesman sold the vehicle out from under me!! I had my checkbook out and was even ready to accept some options I really didn’t want. Feeling like he had lost a sale, the fleet manager I was working with, offered to go into the computer and see what else they had coming in. All of them had roof racks (C7 option) and I definitely didn’t want a roof rack. I’ve had them on other cars and NEVER used them. So they agreed to call the distributor and see if they could change the order. Since the car was still on the boat, they could, they dropped the C7 option dropping the price about $1100. What I wound up with was a silver auto 4x4 with FE CQ GY UR Z2. All but the Z2 are factory options and can’t be taken off without changing the build order. Deal I made was for $100 below MSRP (COSTCO discount). Haven’t paid that close to sticker since buying my 66 VW new for $2020.00!! When I was at the dealer yesterday for the oil change, I found the Fleet guy and asked him when the car would be in and found out it would be here week after next, so we did the paperwork and I gave him a deposit.

Cars I own today….
99 Solara
94 Impala SS
93 Vette 40th Anniv.
88 Chevy P/U
88 BMW 325 – daughter has it away at school
66 El Camino - been in the family since new

Cars I’ve owned over the last 40 years….. (I’m over 50 and most of these were new)

62 MG Midget
63 MGB
66 VW
68 VW convert
69 Chevelle SS 396
68 Firebird 400 ( wife had it when we first met and we kept itr for a while as 2nd car )
71 Triumph Stag
74 Pontiac Grand Prix SJ – 455
74 VW Westphalia camper/van
78 El Camino 350
78 Olds Cutlass Wagon
80 VW Dasher diesel
85 Chrysler LeBaron (Inherited from my Mom)
86 Plymouth Voyager Van (Inherited from my Dad)
86 Ford Taurus Wagon
92 VW Cabriolet

Anybody want to buy an Impala SS ??

I’m really new to Off-roading, but have driven my 2WD pickup some god-awful places, so I thought I’d see what it’s about. I’ve been looking at SUVs for a while, but couldn’t get too excited by most of the soccer-mom-mobiles on the market. I wanted something that would drive on pavement nearly as good as a car and still have the basic utility factors I was looking for. The FJ was all that and more, so I couldn’t resist. I inherited some property in Silver Springs, Nevada (about 15 miles east of Virginia City) and plan to build on it next year, when I retire. Lots of unpaved roads and places to explore in Nevada, so the FJ will get lots of use in addition to crossing the Sierras back to CA in the winter. Also my daughter thinks the FJ is cool and wants it when I’m done with it (if that ever happens !!)

Hi Jim,

Just wanted to say welcome to our community.

I had the same thing happen to me regarding the salesman selling a Silver 4x4 FJ from underneath me, so I ended up with a 2wd Black FJ. I was just starting out on the 2 hour drive when they called me and gave me the bad news.

It sounds like you just ordered the FJ I want too.

I thought I would be happy with a 2wd but I went into some trails yesterday and there was a creek about 2 feet deep that needed crossed and I wasn't sure if I should do it or not in a 2 wd.

So now I'm consdidering putting the 2wd up for sale and getting a 4x4, and it's only been a week since I got my Black FJ.

Be sure to post some pics when you get your FJ and the land in Nevada sounds great too, I'm sure we'd all love to see some pics of that too.

Once again, thanks for registering and welcome to our community.
