I have had my cruiser for about a year and have had a constant problem with mice in the cabin. I understand that it is difficult to keep rodents from causing damage outside of the cars interior although my 1984 Mercedes has had not chewing of wires or hoses and mice and rats are always building nests in it. Mercedes must know something that others don't about rodents. My neighbor had wires chewed inhis new 4runner so obviously Toyota uses tastier materials than Mercedes.
Mice are getting into my FJ Cruiser on a daily basis. I have addes a 1/8" mesh to the cabin filter to prevent them from eating through that again.
I have blocked the air exit vent in the rear quarter and have tie wrapped the manual transmission shift lever and 4WD lever boots and still they are getting in. The next test is to tape up the doors since I do not know of any other possible entry points.
I think it is completely unacceptable that Toyota has built a car that mice can get into. The fresh air intake and air exit could have easily been covered with a grid small enough that mice could not get through at no additional cost. Are they really that interested in dealer revenue from repairs. What about the health issues, hanta virus for example.
Has anyone else had mice in their Cruiser (in the cabin)and have you determined where they are getting in and how to prevent it?
I am ready to tell the dealer to take the car back if they can't fix it. So far they have listened and done nothing else. No return calls as promised. This is my 4th Toyota and is likely to be my last. Toyota used to build a better product but they are pretty much the same as all the other crap today. Not just the mouse problem but the general disposable car mentality.
