Steering vibration

Hi to all JF friends..

I’m sure this questions must not be new to everyone but is happening to me!

After doing a lift kit (OME 2.5”) that looks great and buying some BF all terrains 285/70/17 for my original wheels, I got vibration on my steering wheel between 40 to 55 MPH. Yeah it sucks. .!!! Everything I got is brand new and the guys from 4wheelparts did the job! They could not say what’s going on! since they have check the balancing on all my wheels (they say is ok)… “not a happy customer so far ” My JF is only 7.000 miles and did not have this vibration before with the original tires…! Or had the same after doing the lift kit and having the original tires at that time..

Should I blame the new tires?
Does any body have the same problem..?? Any way it can be fixed?

Thanks for all the help!!

Carl.

Move your tires around and see if it changes, front to rear and side to side and see if it changes and make sure everything underneath is tight. I have alittle at about 55 but have really big tires 325 50 22 terra grapplers. I pick up rocks all the time, vibrates bad and I just ride the bots dots till they fall out.

I too had this problem, got my lift through 4 wheel parts, and my tires through discount tire..
they balanced and moved my tires around. and my vibration is very minimal. Did you also get a spare tire? how is the weight for the back door..ihavnt gotten a spare yet. i too have the same size tires..

Thanks for the responses!

Im going to check tomorrow doing some tire rotation and will see what happen..! I let you guys know!

About the fifth tire.. nop! not yet! I don’t think is a good idea to have that weight on the door! I used to have an FZJ 70 and having a heavy tire at the back didn't do well on the hinges.. I’m still thinking about it.

You guys think is possible to have a brand new not roundup tire or maybe some way of deformation on the inside of the same?

I’ll be in touch!

Carl, I read about your vibration problem. The first question I have is did you have the vehicle realigned? Any lift kit 2-3" or higher requires a replacement of the upper A-arms to restore the positive caster lost from the lift. I own a 2007 black FJ with a 3" OME/Toytech lift and 285/70-17 Goodyear Wrangler M/TR's and after the installation of my lift kit, the truck wandered all over the road. Luckily I have a good mechanic who was able to get the caster as close as possible to factory spec, and use some alignment "tricks", but the fact of the matter is that it cannot be done with the factory upper A-arms. My truck is close to the way it was and my tires are wearing evenly, but there is a slight pull to the left. I plan on getting a pair soon. Two sources that I'm aware of are from All Pro Offroad in CA(cheaper), and Poison Spyder. As to the BF Goodrich all terains, it's an excellent tire and I really don't see them as being part of the problem.
