The FJ I am looking to buy has the TRD performance exhaust. The pipe comes out the back side of the truck, not straight back. Can someone explain what is different?

Hello,
I drove FJ's with and without the TRD exhaust.I liked it enough to order it on mine. The basic difference is the ability to allow the exhaust to exit more efficiently, thus decreasing backpressure. It's really not much different from the aftermarket cat-back systems being offered.I prefer to stick with Toyota when I can.
By the way, gains of 10 to 12HP and an extra 15lbs./ft. are not uncommon.Add the TRD cold air injection kit and enjoy even better performance.
I hope this helped.

I own a 2007 6 speed fj with the TRD exhaust. It not only decreases backpressure to increases hp and torque, but also sounds great above 3000 rpm. It's not obnoxious, but it adds some grunt compared to the stock exhaust.
