I used syntehtic in my Taco and since it is pretty much the same engine I assume it wouldn't be an issue. The big word is ASSUME.

I used synthetic in my Turbo MR2. I noticed an increase in power, and revved higher-faster. I plan to use in the Cruiser once it is fully broken in. NEVER use synthetic oil before the engine is fully broken in. It lubricates SO well, that it won't allow the rings to seat properly. Also, synthetic doesn't CAUSE leaks. Because it has much smaller molecules, they can fit through a much smaller opening. Synthetic will only leak if there is an existing hole in a gasket. It may be too small for conventional oil to seep through, but synthetic can make it's way through. If you have a brand new car/TRUCK, there won't be any issues. Unless, like I said earlier, you add it before the engine is fully broken in.

from what I've heard, its the places that have paper gaskets that after a while synthetic can seap thru it due to minor worpage cuased by engine heat. This happens at higher miles. Again, its what I've heard.

Also the consensus is that AMSOIL is the best out there. It is used by BMW on all its new cars and needs a change after 15000 miles. At $9 a quart it better be good.

Any comments on that?

FYI I have a 2003 BMW 330Ci and BMW does not and has not ever used Amsoil. At this time they use a Castrol synthetic designed for long change intervals. I still change my BMW oil at 7500 miles however
