I went up north last weekend and guess what? Two chips in the windshield. I seen it happen. Two tiny rocks thrown from a truck going the other direction. They hardly made a noise yet managed to chip. I know the windshield is fairly straight but so are a lot of other vehicle windshields.

It can be fixed/ replaced but at this rate I will need a new windshield every two weeks. I think we should all get together and put some pressure on Toyota to recall these things. (the windshield, not the truck)

Dean - Lots of luck with that idea! I wrote to Toyota and included statistics from another board showing a high incidence of cracked windshields. I also mentioned the unusually high cost of the windshield. They basically said they sympathize and recommend staying 2 vehicle lengths behind any trucks - honest that's what they wrote. They also confirm an MSRP of $1093 for the glass alone. Add installation and the mouldings - which are damaged in 9 of 10 installs and you could be up near $1700.

My feeling was that if I wanted to pursue it - I would need legal representation, a large number of co-complainants, and a class action process. Hopefully some local glass manufacturers will mass produce them and lower the costs.

I wonder how they would advise us on avoiding oncoming traffic?
I guess we could drive in the ditch or shoulder?

I'm going to do a self repair and see how damaged it will get.
