Here are a few from my shopping experience,

1. I custom ordered one. "It will be in on the 25th, it's already at the port, so it could be much sooner". Of course that date came and went.
Then I was told several different times, it will be here Friday, Saturday, maybe Monday, no later than Tuesday.

Then I called them and told them I wanted my deposit back and the GM called me and couldn't understand why I was upset and didn't want to do business with them.

It seems that lying/half truths/mis-truths are so common to the people I talked to they are desensitized to it now.

What other big whoppers have salespeople told you?

Here's another one I heard,

"Every other dealer is charging way more than sticker, but we are going to give you a great deal and charge less than the $5,000.00 everyone else is and only mark it up $2,500.00"

"What a great deal!"

When I was looking at the FJ Cruiser, "they aren't building any with manual transmissions yet. Probably won't come out until later this year." About 15 minutes later they print out the build sheet on one built with a manaul transmission that was at another dealer, AFTER they figured out I wasn't going to buy one with an automatic.

I bought my Cruiser on April 15th. My husband put a deposit down on it on April 12th and they said it would be silver and would take a month or two. On the 13th, they called and said I could have a Black Cherry one and it would be 3 or 4 weeks. On the morning of the 15th, they called and said it was in and I could come get it anytime. It didn't have the option package we thought it was going to have but that was okay with me. I bought an inclinometer on ebay for 1/10 the price of an installed one and the single CD player didin't bother me. All of the other dealers in my area (100 m iles radius) were adding up to $5000.00 dollars extra over msrp but my dealer did not. I was really pleased with the service and especiaaly the speed with which the vehicle arrived. He even threw in a pair of Toyota hats. I did get to show it off to other prospective customers while I was there. And, I got to tell them it was MINE.

I actually had no problems when I bought my FJ. They actually offered me $500 below MSRP (not much but better than $5k over). The salesman was great and they stayed there well after closing without rushing me out to finish all the paperwork. He also told me people have been driving in from other states looking for FJs.
