Hi, I can't seem to get an answer to this question. I have a 07 FJ; black; auto tran; all the perks except the TRD edition; 285 17 alloy T/A's; window vents;side steps; soon: bullbar w/fog lights.

Bought this 7/13/07 and notice when shifting from park to reverse makes somewhat of a clunking noise~not too bad tho. When shifting from reverse to drive~BIG funky noise, not quite grinding, but very noticable. What causes this and is it normal for this vehicle? My father was old school mechanic and always said vehicle should not make 'noises' when shifting or you have a prob. anyone else have this? I am taking in to have radio repaired next week (lots of static) and want to let them know there is prob if this is case???

Thanks for any help.

Mine makes break creaking noise when I put it into Rev. But that is normal. When you put it in gear and have the breaks applied your loading the suspension and this results in minor break slippage resulting in making some squeaks and creeks. If your clunking or grinding seek profesional help. Good Luck!

Thanks fj007! Part of what occurs seems like your description, but the louder noise makes me nervous and I will bring up w/dealer. I do appreciate the feedback as wanted to be sure this wasn't just an fj thing......thanks again.

Mine's not an auto, but there does seem to be some excessive play in the drivetrain. Seems like excessive pinion backlash. Could be taking up the slack?

Runner_Ryan: Thanks! I appreciate any and all comments on this before I take the fj in this friday. I hate when they say "we couldn't reproduce the problem" and then I drive home just to hear it again......I just can't imagine a noise like this would be normal. it sounds like something unwinding, but loud.??? Have a great day!
