I have the automatic also and when I first got it, it made some weird noises as well. I think that it was a result of just doing things too fast or when the vehicle was still rolling. I shift slowly and haven't heard a whimper from it in 8 months. I had a stick before and was used to just jamming it in. By the way, the auto is a gem; the way it downshifts on going down hills is great.

I agree. I only noticed the noise when my husband was shifting and he drives stick all day so I think you got it! after I mentioned this to him, it seems to have rectified. THANKS!

It is really cool how it downshifts going downhill, as if you were doing manually! I, too, luv my fj and if i could get the dealership to fix the static/popping noise in my radio, i would be in heaven. I have taken it in 3 times and they have replaced antenna and radio but cannot find reason for this noise. going back in tues and they said something about the amplifer? any ideas on this one?

I've heard of many people with problems with the radio. Mine seems to work fine, but the reception just sux. I just plan to replace it with an aftermarket one...most likely in-dash DVD.

I have found that my radio loses reception when I have my cell phone charger plugged-in to the 12v plug. The reception gets all static and then I unplug and it’s fine. I’m unsure why this would interfere with the radio but it’s a pain regardless.
