My FJ just hit 5100 miles. I was about to go in for the lube, oil, & filter and they tried to upsell a 5,000 mile service.

What the heck is that?

Is it recommended? Has anyone had it?

Thanks,

Toyota has 5/15/30k Mile Service plans. The 5,000 includes:
Replace engine oil & filter, Lub all hinges and suspension, Inspect (or test) air filter, brakes, exterior lighting, exhaust system, steering & suspension, linkage & axle boots. Replenish all fluids, Inspect & rotate tires, reset tire pressure and finally, give it a road test. (Something that might have helped antihistab out).

Years ago when I worked in a gas station, we called all those things listed a 'lube job' !!!! Did most of that stuff for $2.00 !!! $5.00 if you wanted the tire rotation. ( BTW gas was .28/gal then too

Just get the oil change and do the rest yourself if you are able. If you are not able to do these things, I suggest you not consider any serious off-roading.

Holy smokes! 5100? That's it? Come on! Get out there and enjoy it! Mine is coming up on 15 000 km!! It's actually more than that, because I have bigger tires, so the speedo is off.
