My FJ came from the factory/port with the Reese hitch on it.

Any ideas why?

I'm a little concerned because of the brand and the non-stock appearance as well as approach angle being different.

The hitches were backordered for a while, could be the distributor sub'd the Reese for the Toyota to get the car out to the dealer.

That's the hitch...but what about installing the electrical kit that you purchase separately for the hitch. I'm not exactly sure what it is a "converter" and other wiring and a presume one of those less than fully function end connectors to go to a trailer. I don't think it includes a 7 pin connector so that you can use brakes on a trailer.

Thanks.

BobN-

Go to this downloads page:

http://www.fjcruiserowners.com/component/option,com_remository/Itemid,59/func,fileinfo/id,15/

and you'll find a .pdf file that contains the wiring harness installation instructions. That includes diagrams of the electrical parts, including the 9-pin controller that has to be mounted under the dash inside the FJ into which an existing 9-pin connector is plugged, along with a relay and two fuses that get mounted inside the fuse box next to the battery under the hood, and the actual 4-pin trailer lights wiring harness that is an easy plug-in next to the trailer hitch at the back of the vehicle.

I got the factory hitch and factory wiring harness from Rusty Wallace Toyota on eBay for $250 and it was an easy installation once I had both sets of factory installation instruction (one for the hitch - mechanical parts, and the other for the electrical components).

The best part is that it is factory original, and is $100 less then when you get it installed at the dealer.

Is there another trim piece that comes for the hitch? The rear bumper looks like it moulds around the hitch but the stock bumper does not have this indentation for a hitch.

Thanks.
