I have the basic stereo system in my FJ. I wanted to add speakers to the back pillars (which are now covered by plastic panels). Have anyone done this?
I know from some other threads that 3.5" speakers (4" speakers w/minor mods) would fit back there nicely.
Also, are the wires already run to the back pillars in base stereo models like mine? Do the panels pry off easily?
Thanks!
CJ

I haven't actually done anything with mine yet, but I've checked it out.
I have the basic stereo also and I fairly certain the wires are already there. The plastic pieces aren't difficult to remove. Just use a small flat head screwdriver or something thin and strong.
I'm planning to put a 4" set of component speakers back there when time allows.
Let us know how your install goes.

I was wondering what those removable squares were for.

Wires are there in all FJ's You will need the Wire harness connectors
Toyota Subwoofer Switch #86171-35010 Wires are there for the subwoofer also (even if you didn't order the sub) so I got the switch to add a Bazooka tube
Took all of 15 min to put in Had to drill holes for the screws otherwise no modifications I used the baffles to be sure the speaker magnets wouldn't touch any metal
