hi david H. here, hopefully in jan 07 I will be one of the first (perhaps the first) owner of a fj in the UK.

One concern I have - I have a 3 year old boy who sits in a car seat (facing forward) on the rear seat. Is there any danger of fingers (hands) getting tapped in the hinge of the rear access doors on closing.

Any other general tips for a new (foreign) buyer much appreciated.

Thanks

Hello David! Congratulations on your purchase. Wow, you are going to be the first one to own an FJ there! That's awesome. Like any other vehicle doors, the doors of the FJ could possible cause injury if you got your fingers or hand in the wrong place. I don't think the FJ poses any more of a problem in this area than other autos. If you close the back doors while standing outside, you can see the whole back seat area if you look inside from the open front doors. I think you would be able to see where your son's fingers and hands are in relation to the door. Enjoy the FJ as you are going to get plenty of attention driving a vehicle that is rare in your neck of the woods. Please don't forget to tell us about your FJ when it arrives and your first impressions.

Just put him in the middle spot, and he'll be fine. There are anchors for all 3 seats in the back for child seats.

There actually is a little bit of space between the interior plastic of the door and the side wall - enough not to crush little fingers. And I doubt that once he's in his car seat he'd be able to reach the hinge area.
One other benefit is that your son won't be able to open the door until the front door is open... which really pisses my 9 yr old son off. After years of yelling, I finally have the control back! We leave the car when I'M ready.
Just wish the door storage came equipped with Blendtrec blenders to get rid of all of those McDonalds Happy Meal toys.

David, I wanted to ask you about the steering wheel on your FJ. Will it be on the opposite side as those produced for the states?
