Gonna be taking a camping trip this year and was wondering if anyone has put a canoe up on thier stock roof rack before, the canoe roughly weighs about 77 lbs and wondering if the rack will take that kind of load especially if i tie it town on the front and back of the vehicle, any suggestions comments??
thx

Im pretty sure the stock rack has a 155lb weight rating so i would imagine that you should be fine.

I transport mine with no problems on the weight. The size however was challenging. The canoe was wider than the rack so I made two wood planks from 2x4s to run parallel across the rack. This allows the canoe to rest securely on the planks. Also used a 2" hole saw to notch the planks about 1/2" so they fit around the rack. I use straps around the front and back of the rack to hold it down along with a strap from the front tip of canoe to each front bumper/wheel well. On the front strap I had to put a thick piece of foam rubber between the straps and fender to keep the paint from getting rubbed by the strap.
Happy camping

I'm trying to get my canoe on the rack as well. I'm sure I read somewhere that a 3rd party offers a front bar for the rack because Toyota didn't have the fore-sight to make they're bars extend enough to be used up front.
Anyone have any links? Maybe a light bar without the lights?
